Abstract

Hospitalized patients experience physical discomfort such as pain, stress, and uncertain feelings. Hospitalization brings stressful condition, especially during long period confinement inhibiting the healing process for the patient. This paper aimed to develop a nursing model adopted from Watson’s theory of Creating healing environment, Marcus’s theory of Healing Garden, and the Theory of Endorphin. This paper discusses the background and assumptions about the Theory of Caring Healing Environment in Nursing Practice, meta-paradigm and application of therapeutic healing gardens in hospitals. Nurses are professional health workers who have a responsibility to help restore patients’ health holistically (biological, psychological, social, and spiritual) through healing garden activities. The nurses uses her knowledge, skills, and sincerity in caring for the patient. Caring for the (conscious) patient in the room and bringing him/her to the garden, the nurse informs about the healing garden as therapy and the benefits of it to the patients and family. Caring of the patients is comprehensive giving comfort to patient and family. Keywords: Caring Healing Environment and Presence, Hospital Stay, Healing Garden
